A Very Colorful Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I think for a lot of quilters, the quilting and the sewing on of the binding slows down the completion of a quilt.  Once I get a project to that stage, I see a finish in my sights and I become a bit obsessive about crossing it off my to-do list.

I was able to sneak my colorful string quilt onto my longarm frame between some client quilts this week.  A couple evenings of hand sewing and the binding was also quickly added.

I think hand sewing a binding is my second favorite step of the process - choosing fabrics is ...

Oh Scrap! : RSC Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

This week I focused on tidying up my sewing room.  I had reached the point where there was very little working space on both my ironing board and cutting table.
Fabric and scraps were piled everywhere!

As I was cleaning, I did get all the pieces cut for the three blocks for one of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts.  Once I get the pieces cut and laid out on a design board, the sewing goes really quickly.

The rest of my blocks were buried on my ironing board so once I pulled them out, I put them all up on ...

Oh Scrap! : Green is the Color for May from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Looks like I will be getting out my green scraps this month.  Dark green is the Rainbow Scrap Challenge color for May.

But before I get out my green scraps, I thought I would finish up sewing my green selvages.  I already had the lime green started but I spent this week finishing all the other greens.

To date I have 6 colors finished.  I haven't decided if I am going to just add blues and purples or if I am going to add some neutrals like black, gray and brown to the mix.  I certainly have enough selvages ...

Oh Scrap! : Strings from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

As I wrote this post, I realized that today is the first day of December....YIKES!

Maybe I should start working on those holiday gifts :)

But no...my brain is just too tired so I have been playing with strings.  Nice mindless String Blocks.
I started out with these 10.5" yellow blocks.

I moved onto my orange scraps next.  I finished these four blocks and plan on making more.

But next I need to at least make a list of items to make.
We shall see how far I get after that!

Are you making gifts this year?

My Rainbow Garden from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

This year, I decided to do something a bit different for one of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts.  Each month I made various blocks that represent things found in my garden in the designated color.  I love seeing all these fun designs but I have never wanted a whole quilt made with the various block.

So this way, I had the joy of making each block and putting them all together into a fun quilt.

I enjoyed searching the internet for each block design.  And many, I simply designed using graph paper and a pencil.

Some of my favorite blocs ...

Color Block Rainbow Scrap Challenge Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Sometimes the simplest scrap quilts become a favorite of mine!

I finished up my Rainbow Scrap Challenge color block quilt this week.  Isn't it pretty?!

The blocks are simply made with 2.5" squares grouped by color.  All from the scrap bin!

With such an explosion of color in the blocks, I thought it needed a hot pink binding.
For the quilting, I simply used a serpentine stitch in a dusty plum color along all the seams.

I wanted to keep this one gender neutral but I just couldn't pass up this fabric for the backing.  It had ...

Oh Scrap! : Scrap Color Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

The end of the year is coming fast, so I have been evaluating my Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts to determine which I want to finish and which I want to carry into next year.

One of the RSC quilts I have been working on is the simple color block quilt made with 2.5" squares.  For October, I made a couple brown blocks.

I knew I needed some red blocks - so I went ahead and finished up three from squares that I had already cut and were in my stash.

A couple of yellow blocks were needed too.

At this ...
